INSTITUTE FOR CONFLICT STUDIES AND RESOLUTION STRATEGIES

What we do

WHAT WE DO

We enable societies to reduce tension and conflicts amongst their people by strengthening practice-based skills for all those addressing conflict, both incipient and actual, within their societies.

We also conduct research to support the production of training materials and methodologies.

The ICS’s fundamental pedagogy recognises that peace and prosperity require interventions in conflicts that, in addition to security responses, recognise, and skilfully address (especially via both governmental and non-governmental institutions), the social, economic, ethnic, religious, and other factors that drive historical grievances.

The ICS adopts a practice-based approach, combining professional skills within a strong conceptual framework.   This requires a wide, societal perspective that helps promote

mutual respect and understanding, especially bringing together government and civil society in productive ways to reach and influence alienated groups, in particular young people.
